Hack Your Nose For an Awesome Night's Sleep

Why do I always feel so tired during the day, even on those (extremely) rare occasions I manage to get a full eight hours? Every night I tell myself it'll be different. Going to bed earlier is always a good idea, but hey, I need my Netflix time.

Nasal breathing also results in decreased upper airway resistance. That’s just a fancy way to say it's easier for air to flow through your airways if you breathe through your nose. This actually matters because this is a main factor contributing to snoring and sleep apnea. Snoring has way more consequences for my life than just waking up my boyfriend - it's linked to daytime sleepiness and even heart disease.


Beyond that, about half of snorers actually suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, which is when your airways collapse while mouth breathing, leading to periods where you are not breathing. It's basically a more severe form of snoring. You might have sleep apnea if you have been told you snore, have periods of sleep where you stop breathing, or feel tired during the day. During these episodes, there is less oxygen reaching your brain, leading to increased risk of heart disease risk and obesity.


Breathing through your nose has been shown to reduce these episodes, leading to a more restorative rest and better long-term health. And who doesn’t want to feel more refreshed?
